ABN Amro reopens branch in Hong Kong

The commercial banking unit in Hong Kong is staffed by two bankers.

In a Bloomberg report, Jeroen van Maarschalkerweerd, a spokesman for the Amsterdam-based firm, said the Hong Kong unit is staffed by two bankers and it provides payment services, loans and trade and treasury services to Dutch clients with operations in the area.

The bank will also open an office in Shanghai for its energy, commodity and transportation unit.

Bloomberg noted that Chairman Gerrit Zalm has said he will limit expansion outside the Netherlands to activities in which his bank can rank among the top.
