CIMB's Plug n Pay links up with Tesco Malaysia for e-payments

This is targeted for home deliveries.

Malaysia’s leading retailer, Tesco Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Tesco Malaysia) today announced its collaboration with CIMB Bank to utilise its Plug n Pay service to facilitate payments for Tesco Online home deliveries.

According to a joint release from Tesco and CIMB Bank, Plug n Pay by CIMB Bank is Malaysia’s first-ever chip-based mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) solution that offers businesses of any size and segment an affordable yet secure way to manage electronic payments using their smartphones and tablets.

Tesco Malaysia is the first hypermarket to utilise this payment method in Malaysia. This method adds ease in collecting payments, while providing convenience and secured transactions for Tesco Online shoppers.

Upon delivery of goods to their doorstep, Tesco’s Customer Delivery Assistants plugs in the portable Plug n Pay card reader into their mobile devices, which will then be able to accept credit and debit cards and safely facilitate customers’ payment for the goods delivered using the Plug n Pay mobile app.

Electronic receipts will be issued immediately via email or SMS to customers upon confirmation of a transaction.

Here's more from Tesco and CIMB Bank:

The collaboration was formalised today by Georg Fischer, Chief Executive Officer, Tesco Malaysia and Tengku Dato' Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Acting Group Chief Executive, CIMB Group.

During the event, Fischer said, “We make every effort to delight our customers, and through our collaboration with CIMB, we believe we can make the shopping experience for our online customers even more seamless and enjoyable. We’re very pleased to be able to provide the Plug n Pay by CIMB Bank payment method to all our Tesco Online customers where they can be assured of a safe and cashless transaction.”

To-date Tesco Online serves hundreds of customers per day and thousands per week with a selection of 18,000 fresh and grocery items. Goods are delivered right to the customer’s door in a temperature-controlled van and payments are only made based on items delivered.

“We are proud to partner with an industry leader like Tesco who believes in innovation to continuously bring a better shopping experience for their customers.

Plug n Pay essentially transforms smartphones and tablets that are an integral part of our daily lives into tools of commerce that are used to facilitate convenient and secured cashless transactions, adding on to the convenience that Tesco’s home delivery service brings for their customers,” said Tengku Zafrul.

The Plug n Pay solution is protected with end-to-end encryption and the app can only be activated if the correct security credentials are provided.

Users can also be assured of a safe and secure cashless transaction using Plug n Pay as it is both Europay, MasterCard and Visa ("EMV") Level 1 and Level 2 certified - a global standard for authenticating credit and debit card transactions using the same chip-based security measures as conventional point-of-sale terminals.

The Plug n Pay payment method is now available across Tesco Online Shopping home delivery services in Klang Valley, Penang and Johor Bahru. In conjunction with Tesco Online’s official rollout of Plug n Pay payment method, CIMB Bank credit and debit card holders will enjoy complimentary delivery with minimum spend of RM50, plus RM20 Tesco e-coupon for the next minimum purchase of RM100. In addition, customers who pay with their CIMB Bank VISA credit card will enjoy an additional 10% cash rebate for their purchases. All these offers are exclusive for Tesco Online purchases for a limited time only.
