Check out ANZ's new mobile financial service for unbanked consumers in the Pacific

ANZ is using Mobiliti Reach from Fiserv.

Australia and New Zealand Banking Group recently launched an extensive mobile banking and payment service in several nations in the Pacific. The bank, which has offered Fiserv-supported mobile financial services to its customers since 2006, is now providing mobile financial services to unbanked and underbanked consumers in Samoa, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea.

The bank is using Mobiliti Reach from Fiserv, which is designed to meet the needs of consumers in emerging markets, to provide these services under the ANZ goMoney brand.

“ANZ goMoney allows customers to send money to family and friends, pay their bills, purchase airtime top-up vouchers and view their account balances and history on their mobile phones,” said Mr. Vishnu Mohan, CEO Pacific, ANZ.

We interviewed Serge van Dam, VP of Mobile Solution at Fiserv, and he noted that they've worked with ANZ since 2006 to deliver mobile financial services to its customers, but this marks a significant move to meet the needs of unbanked and underbanked consumers in emerging markets. Under the ANZ goMoney brand, Mobiliti Reach is being used to reach new segments of customers and the innovation here is really about making banking accessible and simple through technology.

He added that consumers using ANZ goMoney will be exposed to a host of services that would they would have previously not had access to, such as merchant payments at the point-of-sale, person-to-person payments and mobile phone top-ups, as well as more traditional banking services including transaction history and balance checks.

“Our relationship with ANZ is built on years of trust and our proven ability to deliver. The extension of our partnership to use Mobiliti Reach under the ANZ goMoney brand was therefore a logical progression as ANZ looked to acquire consumers that without a banking relationship in the emerging Pacific economies in which ANZ is active. Fundamentally, this initiative demonstrates that Mobiliti Reach is a cost-effective way for banks to reach untapped markets. Fiserv and ANZ have a shared commitment to delivering innovative and more convenient banking services to consumers and it is this shared approach that leaves us in good shape to develop our relationship further,” he said.
